Ever see the guys on the street corners around town waving and pointing the huge coroplast signs promoting a huge sale? It works! They call this type of grass roots marketing and advertising "Sign Events with sign walkers", or "Sign Twirlers". Or some even call the street team by "human directionals"

Basically, all you need to do is hook up with an advertising agency or promotions company that offers guerilla marketing services and have them sign you up. It works very well to get weekend sales traffic.

My roomate works for one of these companies as a project event manager on the weekends. She gets paid well, but also has to over-see an entire street team for several hours a day and make sure the human directionals are working hard for the client and getting sales traffic to the sale by waving the signs and arrows and getting attention. She stays busy all weekend and barely gets to check in with the store managers, and when she does, they're usually busy with a bunch of customers anyway.

All types of companies use human directionals for weekend promotions. Everything from having the street team promote a auto dealership sales event, or a parking lot sale, or tent sale to a furniture liquidation or home auction.
