Pinko, although quite controversial, is a term that seems to have caught people's imaginations. I am open to changing it, but only if we find something that is as striking. I know that the history is varied...that it is a bit controversial. What it really means (hisotrically anyway) is "slightly left of center", although I don't want to polarize people on this issue. I'm hoping to use a discussion to totally divorce the word from the politics.
The root being "pink" also seems really fabulously feminine to me. My best friend called her company Pink Saki years ago and I thought it took guts. I applaud her for embracing her feminity whilst being strong. there is a part of that in here for me.
Finally, Pinko Marketing is about the commons itself. It celebrates the rise of the 'customer' voice. It strives to tear down top-down power and message structures. It does away with classes and celebrates the impact of the tiniest voices.
In the 5 days since I've proposed it, I've seen a broader community picking up the thread. There is something in it. Would I have received the same response if I said Open Source Marketing? Or Improv Marketing (suggested by Michael Wagner? Or otherwise? Perhaps. And, no, I don't believe in sensationalism, but I do believe that there are A-Ha! moments and many have written me personally to express that 'Pinko Marketing' as a term did this for them.
Of course, I want to address the detractors. Being a community project, I am totally open for suggestions.
